SADC and DRTSS Visit Kuniya

SADC and DRTSS Visit Kuniya

Members of the SADC region and Directorate of Road Traffic and Safety Services (DRTSS) officials visited Kuniya offices to demonstrate the process of acquiring a drivers license through MALTIS System in Malawi. Kuniya was chosen by DRTSS to be the center of this exercise. This shows a vote of confidence in Kuniya Driving School by DRTSS. The participants were representatives of countries such as: Mozambique, Namibia, South Africa, Lesotho, Zambia, Botswana and Zimbabwe. Below are some of the pictures of the day.

Theory Test Tips

The theory test is a computer-based test and consists of multiple choice questions. You must pass all sections at the same time.

If you fail one section, you will have to take the whole test again. You must pass the theory test before you are allowed to start practical lessons; in view of this, Kuniya driving school offers extra theory computer based interactive practice questions which gives students a feel of what they are going to face in the exam room. Kuniya also project video lessons depicting all that happens on the road, as such, we have constructed a well designed user friendly classroom with good ventilation. In addition, there is an outdoor sit around Gazebo class structure where students can relax and interact with tutors.

Know your code!

The road is a dangerous place, especially for kids and older pedestrians, cyclists, motorcyclists and animals. The Road Traffic and safety services developed the Official Highway Code to protect them and other vulnerable road users, and to minimize the number of road accidents and casualties.

It is important that all road users are aware of the Highway Code and are considerate towards each other – this applies to both pedestrians and drivers. By correctly applying the rules of the Code, it could significantly reduce road casualties and this is a responsibility we all have to share. So Kuniya as a driving school is working in partnership with the Road traffic to make people safe on the roads of Malawi.

Breaking the rules of the Official Highway Code is a criminal offence, so you will be judged on your familiarity with them during your practical driving test.

Some of the most important rules are:

  • Only overtake when it is safe to do so
  • Don’t drive under the influence of alcohol, drugs or medicine
  • Maximum speed limits are not a target. Use common sense to determine what speed is appropriate for the traffic, road and conditions
  • When approaching a pedestrian crossing, road works, traffic lights or control system, you have to be able to stop if necessary
  • Be aware of cyclists and pedestrians around you and anticipate what they might do. Especially tourists and children are likely to step out into the road while looking the other way
  • Don’t try to intimidate other road users by driving too close behind them. If they pull out into your path at a junction, slow down and hold back so that they can get clear
  • Don’t play loud music while driving. This is distracting and may mask important sounds around your car

Never forget – driving can be fun but it also needs to be taken seriously.  One in five new drivers has a crash within six months of passing their test
